The Texas hill country. A longtime close friend of my wife, Traci. A vodka distillery. And a wedding.
“We aren’t interested in a bunch of posed pictures. Instead, we would prefer ‘in the moment’ shots that capture the action.”
No problem. I shoot sports all the time. It’s the same strategy. Anticipate the action. Quickly decide what the best vantage point will be. Get there. And then follow the action as it happens.
So when Jeni called me to ask if I would be willing to photograph her upcoming nuptials, I was on board. I was more than “on board”. This is exactly the kind of life benchmark, in my opinion, for which the art and craft of photography is best suited. In the coming years, when the story of the wedding is retold, these are the “frozen moments in time” that will help guide the re-telling. When Jeni or Chad wants to mark the anniversaries of their marriage – they will turn to these pictures.
It's the part of photographing people with which I most closely connect. Helping to capture parts of their journey. And recording moments that contribute to their mythology. Who they are as a person, family member, friend. We attach emotions to times in our lives. Photographs are one of the things that most strongly re-connect us to those emotions.
Jeni and Chad’s wedding was a beautiful event. It was truly a reflection of who they are both as individuals and as a couple. My hope is ,that the story these images tell, accurately captures just how beautiful it was.
