We love when clients come to us with an idea that they want to see if we can execute. This Mom wanted a Family Photo Shoot - but she also wanted to have what amounted to a second shoot - highlighting the talents and interests of her children. As soon as we heard the idea we were on board. We knew we wanted to use the Lake Highlands High School Stadium for the kids shoot and Traci and I thought we had a location near by that would work for the nature setting that was requested for the family shoot. But when Traci and I showed up at the planned location for the first part of the session, it had recently been demolished and was behind construction fencing. Destroyed. Panic. We jumped back in the car and did a quick drive around to find a new location. Just as we were running up against the time to meet the family, we found a perfect little grove of trees with a clearing just beyond. After we were done shooting, we both commented about how well this unexpected location worked out. In the end, it actually may have been a better location than what we had first anticipated using.
After a quick clothing change it was off to the stadium to highlight the sibling talents. From the beginning of discussions about this shoot, we loved the idea of the juxtaposition of the very physical smash mouth football against the equally physical but more graceful ballet. We typically strive to have a fun and relaxed environment while shooting portraits - but we certainly exceeded our average for laughter on this shoot. And we certainly feel like we captured a clear snapshot of where this group is both as a family and individually. These are exactly the kind of images that I can image the family and their generations to come looking back on to retell the story and journey of this special family.
