As Owner of DFW Events event planning, Mary Frances makes a living out of focusing on significant occasions in people's journeys and creating celebrations of those moments. So it was nice to be able to take an early evening in Highland Park to do the same for her and three of the most important people in her life. As the father and step-father of four teenagers, I know firsthand how quickly the dynamics of the family unit morphs and changes as our children get closer to stepping out into the world on their own. And to be able to have pictures that remind you all where you come from and who helped to mold who you are important to honoring your story and your journey.
One of the things I enjoy most about photographing families is watching the dynamics of each family member as they interact with the group. Who provides the comic relief? Who do others look for for assurance or guidance? How does the group show their connections to each other? What is the mythology of these individuals as a family? And how can we help to capture that? How can we help to create images that tell the story of who they are after the siblings have created families of their own? How do we create art that makes a house a home and that just happens to also be your family?
