We are living through historic times.
But aren't we always? I mean we will not ever be exactly who we are today again...or who we were yesterday. Part of my experience of growing up with a mother who was always taking pictures, was the drawers that were stuffed full of pictures. All over the house. And the multitude of picture albums on the shelves in our hall closet. Which inevitably led to times of all of us siblings digging through the drawers or flipping through the photo albums. "Oh yeah that's back when my hair was curly!" or "Oh look at how crazy the style was for Mom and Dad's wedding!" "Hey you used to be shorter than her!"
Part of who we are now is who we once were. And sometimes it's just fun to look back at how we have changed or progressed. And it's just as fun to see that in our loved ones as well. This is part of the experience I hope for when I photograph someone. That somehow I am replicating part of my experience for someone else. That part of having a record of my history...my story.
Layne is our latest Dance Representative. And she is at a perfect point in her life to join our team. Or at least I think so.
She is about to start her High School experience as a Freshman at Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She is joining Booker T because of a passion for dance that she has pursued. She is also about to grow exponentially on her journey with dance through what she will experience and learn. This photoshoot we had with her is a snapshot of who she is today. Who she is as she starts this next chapter of her story.
Her journey will change her. All of ours do. But my hope is that years from now - maybe her daughter or son will flip through these pictures of their mother and learn a little bit about who she was and who she is. Just like my flipping through pictures of my parents always did for me.
