There are many similarities between our Dance Portraiture work and photographing athletes. Both involve working with individuals that spend hours and days and years perfecting their speed, flexibility, strength, coordination and endurance. Both dance and athletic photos typically involve capturing and freezing movement. And both provide snapshots, literally, of the athlete/dancer's journey of growth.
So when it came to capturing Abbey's own personal journey with tennis, we decided to meet on the court she calls "home". The place where she works on expanding her agility and movements so that she is able to recall the perfect action to respond to any volley.
I asked her to do some things that she doesn't typically include in a practice round. Posing with her racket, leaning against the net, etc. Then it was on to the training she typically does on this home court. And I did my best to freeze as many of these movements as I can. So that we, the observers, can appreciate the level of skill and dexterity that she has achieved.
